Ann Craig, Secretary

Ann Craig has had at least one or more horses in her life since a small child. "I grew up riding horses and competing in Jr. Rodeo in Colorado until 18." When she came to Oregon in 1972 to attend college, the horses were out of sight, but not out of mind. After graduation and getting married, horses came back into her life. In 2000, Ann discovered the joys of miniature horses, and along with her daughter, spent several years showing in the AMHR breed shows, 4-H and high school EQ team. "A dream of mine has always been to drive a pair and then learn to drive a team." She successfully competed 2 pairs of VSE last year at NW CDE's, with her friend driving one and Ann driving the other pair. In 2010, the 4 were put together and are now being driven as a 4 in hand. "The journey has been incredible and members of WWW have been an influential support in this dream coming true."

Mary Graff, Treasurer

Mary and her husband, Jack, are owned by four miniature horses, a miniature donkey, and ten Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. They have lived in Warren. Oregon for 25 years. Mary has been involved with miniatuare horses for 21 years, and has been driving a single for 19 years. There is a carriage in her barn that is waiting for a pair of minis to take it for a spin. Hopefully, that will happen within the next year. For several years, Mary was on the Board of the Northwest Miniature Horse Club, and showed her horses in the breed ring. However, Combined Driving has become her new interest. She has driven Moose and Fudge in CDEs, and is looking forward to driving Smokey in the upcoming events.

Emery Hinkley, Member at large

Emery Hinkley started riding at five years old in Northern England where she lived with her family. Soon after, she was hill topping on a lead with her mother in the local foxhunt. She went on to foxhunting as a teenager with the Middleburg Hunt in Virginia and later the Comargo Hunt in Cincinnati, Ohio and the Tacoma Hunt in Washington. She also competed Jumpers and Eventers during high school and college.

Her love for driving began serendipitously while navigating during a cross country schooling behind four matching greys in Belgium in the early 70's. Her own driving experience began in the late 90's with Katmandu, her Hackney pony, and she joined the ADS in 2000. Since then she has competed in Combined Driving with her Morgan gelding, King, and presently competes with her Welsh Cob cross mare, Clue.

Emery has been the WWW Newsletter editor for the past couple of years and is also on the organizing committee for the CDE at Inavale. In the fall of 2011, the ADS granted Emery her recorded "r" status as Combined Driving Judge. She is at this time the only ADS Combined Driving Judge in the Northwest. Emery lives on a small farm with her animals in Newberg.

Sharon McCarthy, Member at Large

Sharon McCarthy is a native Oregonian who was born and raised in Portland. She has been involved with horses since the age of 7. She started riding at Nicol Riding Academy in southwest Portland, now the Oregon Episcopal School, taking lessons from Alick Wilson. Sharon was given her first horse at the age of 12 and boarded her at the Lake Oswego Hunt Club participating in U.S. Pony Club, 3 day eventing and hunter/jumper shows. In 1992 Sharon co-founded Gallops Saddlery in Tigard which she sold in 2004. Sharon became involved in carriage driving in the late 80's learning to drive a friend's team of Percherons as pairs, three abreast and a 4 in hand put to a hitch wagon. As a matter of practicality Sharon purchased a light horse and had him trained to drive by Clay Maier who was in Sisters, OR at that time. Sharon and her husband Tim reside in Beaverton on 22 acres with 4 horses, 3 Border Collies and 3 cats. This is Sharon's second year as a board member of Western Whips and Wheels serving in the capacity of Secretary.

Deborah Homes, Member at Large

Deborah has been riding since she was 10 years old. Her first equine was a welsh mountain pony, and she has been a pony lover ever since. Deborah and her husband Tom share a 30 acre farm with 2 ponies, 7 goats, 3 sheep, 3 dogs, 5 cats and many turkeys and chickens. New to the sport of driving, she has learned so much by volunteering at all the NW driving events, taking clinics, lessons and reading all she can get her hands on. "The driving community is so welcoming and inclusive. I feel fortunate to be a part of it."
